Over the last 8 months we’ve taken the time to rethink our packaging. For us, better design is a holistic approach which considers both the product and the packaging's functionality, aesthetics and environmental impact. Since launch, we’ve always promised to listen to what our community is telling us, and the call to reduce our material consumption with packaging was heard loud and clear.
This is the start of our journey to becoming more sustainable, and we have a long way to go, but we wanted to highlight some of the steps we have taken so far.
For us, using less to achieve more goes a long way- whether that’s less ‘stuff’ or less materials. That’s why, going forward, all our new products will be delivered in our new, 100% recyclable packaging.
Check out some of the benefits of our new packaging. We think it’s pretty cool…
•Our packaging supply chain is now completely plastic free, including eliminating the plastic bags that used to cover each box during shipping.
•It’s fully recyclable, and even better, it doesn’t need to be separated, so everything can be easily recycled in your domestic waste.
•All inks used are vegetable based.
•Through making our packaging slimmer and lighter we’ve greatly reduced our carbon footprint.
•Shipping our products from our factories to our UK based warehouse, we’ve seen a 60% reduction in weight and 70% reduction in shipping volume which saves both energy, materials, and costs.
•Now letterbox friendly.
So, what’s next?
Below we’ve detailed just a few of the initiatives and processes we’re working on at the moment to move towards a more circular model of production. It’s a work in progress, but we promise to be 100% transparent with our community as we go:
•We are in talks to collaborate on a product in the near future with a recycled plastics company, and working with sustainable materials is where we see our future.
•Better design doesn’t just equal good functionality and nice aesthetics. It also has less impact on the environment. Our products are built to last, and (apart from your phone case) our ecosystem of accessories are designed so you won’t need to upgrade them every time you upgrade your tech.
•Our products are designed in London and made in China, and we’re proud of the partnerships we have built there. The factories we work with in China use very skilled people and machines. Without them we simply wouldn’t be able to make the quality of product that we do. We only work with factories that adhere to very strict standards in terms of safety and treatment for their workers, and its impact on the environment.
